Eisteddfod

I’ve been to many places in Wales—north, south, and east—and a few in the west, but I’d never been to Pembrokeshire. For a while, it seemed like I never would, unless I braved the nightmare of public transport. In Wales, the bus takes about 7 or 8 hours, while the train can take up to 12, so spending all day getting there, staying overnight, and then spending all day coming back just wasn’t worth the hassle.

This year, the Eisteddfod was in Pembrokeshire. I’d gone last year, enjoyed it, and wanted to go again, so I looked into coaches. A friend mentioned one for £55, but I had no idea how long it would take. I assumed it would be similar to public transport and didn’t fancy paying that much for such a long trip. Then I heard about a cheaper coach, which sounded more appealing, but it ended up being canceled due to lack of interest—strange, but not unheard of.

I went back and forth for ages, but the chance to visit Pembrokeshire for the first time and attend the Eisteddfod was too good to pass up, so I took the plunge and booked the day before. I’d been told the trip would take just over four hours, and to my surprise, it wasn’t too long at all. The place was beautiful—so different from the hills and mountains I’m used to. It was flat, the weather was lovely, and I soaked it all in. I was a bit overwhelmed by how much I liked it, and I definitely want to go back and maybe stay for a few days next time.

The journey took three hours to get there and only two and a half hours to return, with both trips being flawless. I was a bit surprised at how quickly I arrived, as my focus on public transport made it feel like another world to me. The trip down was also lovely, especially along Cardigan Bay.

This is the first time I have made two eisteddfods in a row, It will be three in a row if I make it next year and its nearer. I have been going to the eisteddfod for years off and on but would never go the Maes when younger just get drunk in the town and go to gig in rugby club or something but they have dragged everything into the Maes now so you have no choice but to do the Maes if you want experience the eisteddfod things change I guess,
