damp

I had a bit too much beer last night, so I was a little hungover today.  The house is still a mess, I thought of cleaning it a little but I guess its pointless until these workmen have finished, as they will only mess up whatever I have cleaned.  The plaster which they have put on the walls is taking a long time to dry out, I guess this is due to the general dampness of the house.  The units which are going to put in look quite nice but will only get destroyed if they don't do something about the damp in the place. I have not done a lot today, only listen to the radio and watch some tv really, the weather seems to have taken turn for the worse again today, its raining and its cold.  I have strummed a bit on the guitar but every time I play it I end up getting dirty, even though I have wiped the thing many times I still seem to pick up muck from it which is strange, I guess I am not too sure where the muck comes from.  I also have a problem with the battery in this laptop, it seems

work

Well the 'home improvements' is still going on.  This morning someone turned up, who I was not aware of was going to turn up, apparently he was here to put some new stuff in the bathroom, he failed to knock on the door and just walked in, I was not amused.  I actually thought I had until 8.30 am until it was time for someone to come and do some work.  A chap turned up later to put in a new floor, which I thought was a bit stupid as the walls need plastering first.  Something called tanking was broken by the electricians, a week ago and fixing this seem to be taking time and holding the whole process of getting job finished, up.  I heard today that there is some outside firm coming to look at it,  the problem stems from kitchen wall being below ground, so moisture is coming through the walls and this tanking is suppose to stop it, I don't know what's happening to bricks with all this moisture getting to them, I'm no builder so have no idea what's what. Today also

home imporvements

Well someone finally turned up to do the rewiring of this place, but it was not so straight forward, they have wrecked the kitchen wall due some tanking or something I am not too sure what they are on about, there is just this big hole in the kitchen wall, exposing the brickwork.  Due to the rewiring there is also dust everywhere, really fine dust and it has got in to all kinds of places.  I am not too sure whether to bother starting to clean it as there is a load of plastering to do.  My things in the house are everywhere as I have to move them so they can do the work, its a nightmare really.  They broke the phone line but have now fixed it. I wish I hadn't started all this. There has been a lot people coming in and out of this house in the last week more than there has been for the last year probably if not more, which is strange, I guess that's life, nothing for ages then all at once, most of them have had scouse accent, and come from the Wirrel, which to me a vague concept,

Junk mail

Well there is no sign of the builders again today, God knows when they will get this place finished.  According to the plan I am suppose to get new bathroom floor or something today.  I looked at the kitchen earlier today, and it seems a shame to put new kitchen unit in such a damp place, it will just get ruined, maybe they have a plan for the damp I don't know, but in my opinion they should knock the whole thing down and put a nice little unit or something at the back of the house. Apparently the people doing the rewiring are coming tomorrow, at 8.30 am I have now heard, and I need to move everything to the middle of the room and then they will cover everything up. I spilt some oil yesterday on the kitchen floor, I have cleaned it up but the floor is still sticky, I think that is caused by the old glue used to attach the old floor tilesx. I got some junk mail this morning from a company who I have not heard about for years Damart, I actually thought they had gone out of existance

Llan Fair

Image
I found the pic above on a facebook page, which has photos of people who used to live in Llan Ffestiniog and who live there now.  The above photo is of the village Fair which is held every year on the 13th of November, unless that date falls on a Sunday and then it is moved to the following Monday.  Weather wise it seems to rain most of the time it is being held, and there is a phrase attached to this 'tywydd Ffair Llan' it is used if it is raining on the few days before the fair.  The fair is held in the square at the bottom of the village near the pub, and the road, the A470 leading to Trawsfynydd is closed for the day, as some of the stall holders set up their stalls there, it is quite odd really, it is the people who are walking who get priority on this day and not the car drivers. the pavements are left clear for people to walk on, and the stalls do not occupy them.  There was a plan to move the fair to Bleanau Ffestiniog a few years ago, but it was scrapped.  The fa

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="300"] The Frankfurt kitchen using Taylorist principles (Photo credit: Wikipedia)[/caption] No sign of the people who are suppose to be giving me a new kitchen , today.  The work that should have been done today or was the rewiring and in one way I am glad they didn't turn up as I would have had bare wires, waiting to be plastered, wold have had this over, the weekend. I had a dentist appointment early in the morning and if they had not arrived by the time I had to go and get the bus, they were not going to get in anyway, I toyed with leaving a message with next door, but I reckon if they are not here by half nine they are not coming at all.  Its a real drag not having a kitchen, and having to go backwards and forward to a the room where the stuff is.  I guess I will get left alone this weekend and and won't have to be worry about them turning up so much I guess, and hopefully they will come and Monday and

Shit bus service continues

Well as of yesterday, I don't have a kitchen, except for the sink and my cooker, it was all stripped out yesterday so I can have a new one put in eventually, I say eventually as they were suppose to be here today to do the rewiring, which I have heard is going to be pretty messy with dust everywhere, which is a bit of a pain but I guess it has to be done..  After the rewiring comes the plastering eventually and so on until they actually do finish at some point in the future.  The upheavel is a bit of a drag, I have to keep walking from the spare room to the kitchen bringing things from there and taking them back and forth.  I wish I had not started all this sometimes but I am sure it will be fine in the end. I bought the local rag today, and it was again full of stories regarding shit public transport about how people are now trapped in their homes and suffering isolation.  I was on a bus today and I could hear this woman complaining about how a bus which was running up to about

football

I have started to move the stuff from my kitchen to another room so that the new kitchen can be put in, I am quite surprised how much stuff there is to move. I am a bit apprehensive about how I'm going to cook for the next few days while they are here, well I hope its a few days and it does not drag on, where they go off somewhere and then come back again in a few days, like they seem to have done to a friend, but that friend has moved out, so maybe they are taking advantage of the situation, I don't know.  This kitchen was only put in few years ago, and they are quite new, the units which are there already, and it will be a shame if they are just broken up and thrown away, though they are not good quality, they are in a good state.  Apparently they will give me a new floor, which is easier to clean apparently.  I am not looking forward to have these people under my feet and the place being turned upside down and for some reason I can't see the benefit of having this new k

Marmite

Its quite amusing how this wordpress tells you have put the wrong password in, it kind of shakes in a way as if to say no, you have got it wrong. I am coming to the end of another jar of marmite .  While in the pub one night someone told me about a way to get all the marmite out of the jar, without having to spend ages scrapping the thing.  Apparently the best way to do it is to put the jar in warm water and then the marmite will melt and run to the bottom of the jar.  I tried this and it works.  I wish had done this years ago I am sure over time I have thrown away pounds of marmite. I have started to clean my kitchen out so the new one can be put in,  I am not too sure if they want me  remove the cooker, they will have to do that themselves as I am have no idea how to disconnect a cooker.  I am not sure what I will have to do in relation to cooking, maybe they will only move it when they need to and only fo a few hours, I guess I shall have to wait and see.

I took this pic yesterday, its a sign indicating where the hospital in Blaenau Ffestiniog USED to be, untit some stupid quango decided that it was a good idea to shut it down, I just hope no one goes that way and looks for a hospital, the fact that the sign is still up represents the just how stupid the whole episode has been, and that closing hospitals is a bad move all round, if people did not go ill anymore I can understand closing them down, but the fact is they don't and when people become ill where they can't cope at home they end up in hospital, and there will always be hospitals no matter how much stupid people think they can come up with an alternative.  Bleanau Ffestiniog is the the third largest town in Gwynedd and therefoe needs a hospital,  I think there is a legal campaign still going on to keep the place open, so lets hope they succeed. There is a rumor going round that the local surgery here is closing down too, I moved from the practise where I was before due t

Llanbedrog

Image
I went for a walk last summer along the coastal path near Pwllheli , I walked to Llanbedrog , it was a nice walk and I thought it would be good walk for the group I do go walking with to do, so I suggested it to the person who organises  the walks for the group.  She thought it was ok and today we went to do the walk to see if it was practical for the group to do it.  We did the walk  the other way round though.  I took this pic on Llanbedrog beach this afternoon It seemed while doing the walk that it had changed since last year, it seemed there was a new part to it, its part of the new coastal walk of Wales .  The walk was quite pleasent.  It was a nice day today weather wise, I hope its the same when the actually walk takes place in a couple of weeks time.  In the last week or so I have walked over 30 miles, which is good, but as there are no walks organised in the near future I will go back to doing no walking really, from one extreme to the other I guess, which is a shame, anyway,

tv licence

Well Easter is over for another year.  It was a bit earlier thhis year for some reason, I am not too sure how they calculate when Easter should be.  I went to the quiz last night, and got talking to some people, they told me that you don't have a have a tv licence if you are watching catch up telly, I thought, and am sure that someone had told me that you had to have a tv licence if you have a computer or anything that can show a tv program, and I took this to mean, either live or watched on catch up. It seems that you don't need a tv licence you are only watching catch up tv on your computer which is handy really, I don't think I will buy another tv licence I will just watch catch up tv instead, iplayer and all that.  The thing that puzzles me, is what if I watch live tv on the computer, how will they know that?  I guess in the old days, you could get done for watching tv without licence, if they saw that you had a tv but no licence, but you can it seems now just say I hav

shack

I did not go the 4th day of the walk, I could not face another 10 miles of plodding around the countryside, I think this is mainly due to the fact that I have not been walking quite so much in the last year, due to bad weather and things like that.  I did not think I would even finish 2 days but I did 3 in the end, more than anyone else except the person who organised the walk.   Instead of going on the walk i tidied up around the place, and just sat around, and also watched the football this afternoon, it was a crap day.  I did not even go for a short walk, its still perishing out there, I have a short walk on Wednesday, a kind of trail run for group who want to do this short walk, a recky or something they call it. I have at last heard when the new kitchen is being put in, apparently its on the !0th of April, I should have a received a 21 day notice but I didn't, which I guess is typical of the organisation who are doing the work. I am a bit apprehensive about the rewiring as the
