hospital closure

Its another cold day, no sign of winter ending yet.  I had to go to the optician in Dolgellau today, the bus service has got a lot worse to Dolgellau recently, there are big gaps between buses I can go to Dolgeallau on, and the ones I can get back, which involves a lot of hanging around, though it was not too bad today as the optician was a bit late so I did not have so long to hang around after my appointment.

The optician reckons I could use another pair of glasses but I thought there was not that much difference really maybe I will have another test just to make sure. I will be going back there in a couple of weeks to get some other stuff and to get a new frame for some glasses that I have.

I took delivery of some parcels for my sister today and took them round after tea there was no answer there though.  It is a very sad day in the community today, as the last patient has gone out of the hospital and they are closing it down, a hospital which has been for over a hundred year or so.  We are suppose to use Alltwen now which is in Porthmadog, and is really awkward to get to, there is a bus problem again, as there is always round here, you can walk there but its about a mile or so, just really inconvenient if you don't drive.  I used to work in the community hospital which has been shut by the stupid health board, with a stupid name.  I worked there in the beginning of 80's as a temporary porter, cleaning up sheep crap, shaving, moving bodies into coffins, and getting rid of waste. It was ok, but I was not allowed to have the job perminantly it went to a guy Richard, I think he was still there up until the closing day guess he will lose his job now or get transferred. I don't think I would have stayed as long as he did, the job was ok but not that good.

Well I achieved something last night, which I thought was going to be beyond me, I guess to a lot of people what I achieved, was pretty trivial, but I guess we all see things different;ly, what I achieved was to get over 170 score in a whist drive.  Last night was the first time I had ever done it, had a few scores in the 160's but not in the 170's which I see as the holy grail of scores to get as you will probably win then, which in fact I didn't last night, someone scored more than me, by 1 point.  I was not that bothered about that, all I was concerned about was getting a score above 170, I have been going to whist for years off and on and was never, until last night able to get the magic score, I am surprised I got the score last night as I had a bad headache all evening, I guess it was the luck of the cards that got me through. I thought I would never get the score, as I don't see very well, and struggle to make out the cards sometimes which is a bit of a strain,

great war

I went to an exhibition today, which was about the first world war, it mainly seemed to be full of photos of men from my home village who had fallen in the great war, they were all young obviously not ravaged by time.  It was a bit sad to think that so many young men from the place where I grew up were killed, it had their names and the names of where they lived, the names of houses and streets are the same today Sometimes you feel the outside world does not affect what happens here, but I guess it must do as it dragged a load of the young men here into the conflict which was going on at that time, I am not sure I agree with them going to fight, but that is neither here nor there, the fact is they did and that was what was going on at that time. My grandfather was in the first world war, but he was lucky enough to survive, even though he did leave his calf muscle over there in wherever he was, it must have been hell for him really and I guess I will never know what he saw there, al

I did not go the 4th day of the walk, I could not face another 10 miles of plodding around the countryside, I think this is mainly due to the fact that I have not been walking quite so much in the last year, due to bad weather and things like that.  I did not think I would even finish 2 days but I did 3 in the end, more than anyone else except the person who organised the walk.   Instead of going on the walk i tidied up around the place, and just sat around, and also watched the football this afternoon, it was a crap day.  I did not even go for a short walk, its still perishing out there, I have a short walk on Wednesday, a kind of trail run for group who want to do this short walk, a recky or something they call it. I have at last heard when the new kitchen is being put in, apparently its on the !0th of April, I should have a received a 21 day notice but I didn't, which I guess is typical of the organisation who are doing the work.
