Christmas is nearly over again, and thankfully so—it’s becoming quite a drag these days. Next year will be worse, with an extra bank holiday meaning it’ll drag on even longer than usual. I’ve ended up drinking a lot more beer than normal over the holiday period. At least the weather’s been okay, though it’s been cold.
This morning I came across an article about young footballers in the region—players the writer had enjoyed covering over the past year—and among them was a young man I know, a distant relative. He’s 17 and plays for Dolgellau, with an impressive record of 40 goals in 49 appearances. He’s been with the club for a while now, though he was in an academy at one point. I’ve tried convincing him to join the local team here, but that would mean dropping down a level, and it’s clear he wants to move up rather than down—or even sideways.

His current team recently reached a round of the Welsh Cup they’d never made it to before, thanks to two of his goals, so I suppose he’s secured a place in the club’s history—not bad for a 17-year-old. The club’s only been around in its current form since 1971, though they may have had other successes in the past.
II think he plays for his college as well and has represented Wales through his college, even playing at England’s HQ, St George’s Park. He’s scored 25 goals this year, and I hope he gets the chance to play at a higher level. I’m not sure why the academy team let him go—it’s very odd. He wouldn’t be the first good player to be overlooked by a club; Salah and De Bruyne are examples, both once rejected by Chelsea.
II’m looking forward to the season starting again so I can watch the local team play live online thanks to their new Veo camera. It should be interesting, and I hope it helps them with coaching and other aspects of the game. We’ve had to wait a long time because the season was disrupted by canceled matches, but I think the next game is next Saturday. if things go to plan I hope the local team get promoted this season, that is the camera will help them improve their results I don't know if
The young lad who is up and coming has moved to brick field rangers a club in Wrexham who play at a higher level than his last club and maybe play him a little it will be interesting to see how he gets on
