Walk

I went for a walk today, I have done this walk many times, its from Dolwyddelan to Capel Curig, its an interesting walk as there are different terrains. There are parts of it which is an old drovers road, which the drovers used to use to take their sheep to market in the big cities in England, they, used to bring back all the news that was going on in the country, there were not as many national newspapers as there are today, and the news took a bit longer to filter through.

It looked like it was going to rain but it held off all day.  When I got to the end of the walk, I had planned to catch the bus back, but while looking at the bus timetable, a bus went sailing past, well you know what I mean, I know buses don't sail, I was gutted, I could either hang around for another hour or walk to Swallow falls, where the buses seemed more frequent, than where I was was for some reason. I decided to go to Swallow falls, but when I got to there, i still had a some time to wait for another bus, so carried on Betws y Coed, while walking to Betws y coed i came across the above sign, I think the F mean furlong, as the road used to be the main mail road, which was brought carried by horse and carriage, well I'm assuming it means furlong anyway.  

I thought it would take longer to get to Betws y coed than it did really, I was glad i missed the bus in the end really, as i had a bit more of a walk, and when I got to Betws the train was only 5 minutes from arriving so I did not have long to wait. I could here the train announcer, mechanised one naming the next station and pronouncing it as Pont why (y) Pant for Pont y pant, it sounded bloody stupid really, not sure why they do this, do they do it on purpose, as a certain contempt for our language, whatever it is its stupid and childish and very very ignorant, and they should not get away with it, its also very confusing I would think.

When I got the train back to Blaenau, I got the bus back here, and went to some housing thing, to see if they could help with some financing, nothing doing really.

Well I achieved something last night, which I thought was going to be beyond me, I guess to a lot of people what I achieved, was pretty trivial, but I guess we all see things different;ly, what I achieved was to get over 170 score in a whist drive.  Last night was the first time I had ever done it, had a few scores in the 160's but not in the 170's which I see as the holy grail of scores to get as you will probably win then, which in fact I didn't last night, someone scored more than me, by 1 point.  I was not that bothered about that, all I was concerned about was getting a score above 170, I have been going to whist for years off and on and was never, until last night able to get the magic score, I am surprised I got the score last night as I had a bad headache all evening, I guess it was the luck of the cards that got me through. I thought I would never get the score, as I don't see very well, and struggle to make out the cards sometimes which is a bit of a strain,

great war

I went to an exhibition today, which was about the first world war, it mainly seemed to be full of photos of men from my home village who had fallen in the great war, they were all young obviously not ravaged by time.  It was a bit sad to think that so many young men from the place where I grew up were killed, it had their names and the names of where they lived, the names of houses and streets are the same today Sometimes you feel the outside world does not affect what happens here, but I guess it must do as it dragged a load of the young men here into the conflict which was going on at that time, I am not sure I agree with them going to fight, but that is neither here nor there, the fact is they did and that was what was going on at that time. My grandfather was in the first world war, but he was lucky enough to survive, even though he did leave his calf muscle over there in wherever he was, it must have been hell for him really and I guess I will never know what he saw there, al

I did not go the 4th day of the walk, I could not face another 10 miles of plodding around the countryside, I think this is mainly due to the fact that I have not been walking quite so much in the last year, due to bad weather and things like that.  I did not think I would even finish 2 days but I did 3 in the end, more than anyone else except the person who organised the walk.   Instead of going on the walk i tidied up around the place, and just sat around, and also watched the football this afternoon, it was a crap day.  I did not even go for a short walk, its still perishing out there, I have a short walk on Wednesday, a kind of trail run for group who want to do this short walk, a recky or something they call it. I have at last heard when the new kitchen is being put in, apparently its on the !0th of April, I should have a received a 21 day notice but I didn't, which I guess is typical of the organisation who are doing the work.
