Universal basic income
I believe there should be an universal basic income a guaranteed income regardless of the situation the main reason I would support this is that its a way out of the benefit trap especially for disabled people. It would give disabled people the chance to try out a certain job one that they stereotypically did not go and do before and if it did not work out they could go back on the universal basic income thing and they could try again. This income would reduce the discrimination of blind people, three quarters of the visually impaired are unemployed as the discussion with the employer would be more honest as the employer would be more likely to give the disabled person the job to try knowing that if it did not work out there was a safety net for that person in those discussions which are not had now the employer would get to learn about the situation of the disabled person and in the future might see a roll for person and therefore getting a more diverse workforce which can only be good thing.
I believe organisations like the RNIB should be campaigning for things like this for the visually impaired it could be an exercise to see if the universal basic wage could be rolled out for everyone if it was a success for the disabled.
The benefit trap is a horrible thing it stops people applying for job they are not sure if they could do as they know if it did not know if it could work out and if ii didn't they could not go back on their original benefit well maybe they could but its a risk. This UBI would reduce the benefit bill in the long run as the employers would be more inclined to work with the disabled person to find them a roll in their work or maybe in some other business, we are all capable of doing something and its soul destroying to be just sat at home just collecting benefit to be honest going nowhere fast nothing to get up for no sense of purpose in the life just stuck terrified of doing the wrong thing incase the DWP penalise you.
Maybe after the pandemic has subsided things might change and there will be more emphasis on giving people a chance to do things who knows I just hope I am around to see what happens.
