manhole

I got a letter this morning, from a building company, saying they will be fixing the noisy manhole, I have had to put up with for the last few weeks.  They will be fixing it on Monday, so I have only another few days of the noisy thing, though I have not heard it today, as I have been out all day and there does not seem to be that much traffic around.  I was a bit worried, that I would have to wait a a longer for it to be fixed but I won't which is good news and I can move back into the bedroom from the living room.  I have taken a picture of the mess that is the manhole and will take another one of it when it's fixed.  I was a bit surprised that it was only a few people around here who were hearing it, but maybe its because the acoustics in this place is different, I don't want to go through that again.  Though according to a neighbour, I might, as it breaks now and then, but hopefully they will fix it properly this time.

This morning, I watched the tennis and Andy Murrey is through to the final, so that is something to look forward to on Sunday, as Sunday's can be a bit of a non event, as the shops are shut and there are no buses hardly to speak of.  After the tennis I went to the music group, which was not as good as usual, I guess it comes and goes, sometimes its not as good as other times I guess, and with having my sleep disturbed recently, it has been difficult.

So it will be quite busy around here on Monday, as there are also builders coming to fix my roof at last.

Well I achieved something last night, which I thought was going to be beyond me, I guess to a lot of people what I achieved, was pretty trivial, but I guess we all see things different;ly, what I achieved was to get over 170 score in a whist drive.  Last night was the first time I had ever done it, had a few scores in the 160's but not in the 170's which I see as the holy grail of scores to get as you will probably win then, which in fact I didn't last night, someone scored more than me, by 1 point.  I was not that bothered about that, all I was concerned about was getting a score above 170, I have been going to whist for years off and on and was never, until last night able to get the magic score, I am surprised I got the score last night as I had a bad headache all evening, I guess it was the luck of the cards that got me through. I thought I would never get the score, as I don't see very well, and struggle to make out the cards sometimes which is a bit of a strain,

great war

I went to an exhibition today, which was about the first world war, it mainly seemed to be full of photos of men from my home village who had fallen in the great war, they were all young obviously not ravaged by time.  It was a bit sad to think that so many young men from the place where I grew up were killed, it had their names and the names of where they lived, the names of houses and streets are the same today Sometimes you feel the outside world does not affect what happens here, but I guess it must do as it dragged a load of the young men here into the conflict which was going on at that time, I am not sure I agree with them going to fight, but that is neither here nor there, the fact is they did and that was what was going on at that time. My grandfather was in the first world war, but he was lucky enough to survive, even though he did leave his calf muscle over there in wherever he was, it must have been hell for him really and I guess I will never know what he saw there, al

I did not go the 4th day of the walk, I could not face another 10 miles of plodding around the countryside, I think this is mainly due to the fact that I have not been walking quite so much in the last year, due to bad weather and things like that.  I did not think I would even finish 2 days but I did 3 in the end, more than anyone else except the person who organised the walk.   Instead of going on the walk i tidied up around the place, and just sat around, and also watched the football this afternoon, it was a crap day.  I did not even go for a short walk, its still perishing out there, I have a short walk on Wednesday, a kind of trail run for group who want to do this short walk, a recky or something they call it. I have at last heard when the new kitchen is being put in, apparently its on the !0th of April, I should have a received a 21 day notice but I didn't, which I guess is typical of the organisation who are doing the work.
