studio one
This is a link to a piece of computer music I created. https://soundcloud.com/david-jones-8/getting-there As you can see its on soundcloud, it has a lot of mistakes in the arrangement and in other areas. The main thin that gets me about it though, is the sound of it, well the sound of the drums and the bass. When I play the bass and drums together, the bass sounds different to the way it sounds when its soloed and the way I originally put it in to the midi thingy. It sound a lot better with the drums, but I can't seem to recognise the bass line I wrote in the midi thing, it is completely different as far as I can see. when I solo the bass it sounds like the bass I put in but when un solo it and let it play with the drums it 'changes'
I guess the only thing I can put this change down to is the influence of the drums, but I would like to know what influence the drums, are having on the bass, how thing works, so I can recreate it again of course as it sounds cool. It feels like the program is compensating for my ineptness with the program Studio one, I am that is not what is happening, or they may be some mechanism that does this to a certain extent, which I am not aware of as yet, there is so much to learn in relation to these programs, I am sure I will get to the bottom of mystery sooner or later. These programs are probably very complex things and take a long time to master, but its not very subtle in doing this 'change' and its perplexing me.
I almost feel patronised by the program, but I guess it just shows how powerful it is. I will wait until I get back to college to askl the tutor if he can explain this 'chante' or I guess I could rumage around the internet, it may have something to do with the timing or quantizing or whatever its called.
I did a riff on the piece too, I was amazed how with the little riff, how much the beat improved, it sort of woke it up from an ambieenty kind of thing to nearly a dance thing, its amazing what these things can do but I want to understand why these things work in the way they do if I can.
I don't have a keyboard right now as mine fell over and now the usb connection does not work, I have ordered a main connector but due to xmas and all that, it will not be here for a few days I guess.
I have also these powerful speakers, but it seems there is no way of changing the bass levels on them which is a nuisance as they can be a be annoying.
It seems to me, that making these bits of music is like painting a picture, in sound, you have to balance the piece, tell a story, not have all the sounds being heard but not being over baring a balancing act, you have to see whole thing in its entirity, the process is very creative.. The timing has to be right things should come in and go out at the right time
